Becky Mannel is Coordinator of the Lactation Center at the
University of Oklahoma Medical Center in Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma, USA, where she supervises a team of IBCLCs and
provides education for staff, physicians, and students. She
has helped to pass legislation in Oklahoma to protect the
rights of breastfeeding mothers in public, in the workplace
and exempting them from jury duty. She is active in her state
breastfeeding coalition and is one of the co-editors of the
second edition of ILCA's Core Curriculum.
Becky is one of the inaugural inductees into Medela's
Lactation Consultant Hall of Excellence. She has participated
annually in medical mission trips to South America for several
years and is fairly fluent in Spanish.

Elizabeth (Liz) Brooks received her law degree in 1983, and
was a lobbyist and litigator in Washington D.C. (federal civil
and administrative law, and Congressional ethics matters). Liz
moved to Philadelphia in 1989, where she was a criminal
prosecutor for the District Attorney’s Office. She left the
practice of law to raise her three children. Like many, Liz
found lactation consulting by starting out as a breastfeeding
mother. She became a lay breastfeeding counselor in 1991, and
"worked her way up" to sit for the IBLCE exam in 1997. Liz is
now a private practice lactation consultant with varied work
settings: She provides prenatal breastfeeding classes, sees
mothers and babies on the maternity floor, and also makes home
visits to her clients. Liz has also worked as an IBCLC at a
community-based non-profit breastfeeding center. She is a
well-received speaker on legal, ethical and business practices
affecting lactation consultants.

Kathy Parkes, BSPsy, RN, IBCLC, RLC is ILCA's current
Treasurer. She has been involved with breastfeeding mothers
and infants for over 20 years, starting out as a lay
breastfeeding counselor. Kathy sat the IBCLC exam in 1992 and
opened a private practice in San Antonio , TX , USA , in which
she continues to provide care in a variety of situations.
Currently, she is also working as a lactation consultant in a
birthing unit that delivers 1000 babies per year. Kathy has
extensive experience with the WIC program and is a certified
WIC Peer Counselor Trainer for the state of Texas . She is a
founding member of her local and state breastfeeding
coalitions.

Suzanne Hetzel Campbell received her nursing degrees from the
University of Connecticut in 1983(BS), 1986(MS), and her PhD
in Nursing at the University of Rhode Island in 1996. She has
two children (now ages 13 and 18). Presently she is a nurse
educator and breastfeeding researcher at Fairfield University
in Fairfield, Connecticut USA . Suzanne has been working with
breastfeeding families since 1983 professionally and in
volunteer positions including with La Leche League
International, WIC, and the Connecticut Breastfeeding
Coalition. She has been active in ILCA as a presenter and on
the research committee. Her program of research focuses on
breastfeeding self-efficacy, clinical issues (plugged ducts,
hyperlactation and nipple issues), and low-income ethnically
diverse populations.

Originally from Chicago, and a music major, 35
years of living in Yucatán, Mexico have familiarized Roberta
with the Latino Culture. 28 years have been dedicated to the
promotion of breastfeeding, and the last 8 have been focused
on the situation of breastfeeding and working women.
Understanding the U.S. culture AND the Mexican Culture - both
city and village settings - enables Roberta to serve as a
bridge for assisting healthcare providers to better understand
the Latino perspective with a view to improving the quality of
care offered and increasing prevalence of breastfeeding in the
latino population. She is in private practice and also
lectures at several universities and schools in Merida,
Yucatán.

Angela Smith, RN, RM, IBCLC, BA serves as ILCA's Director of External Affairs. Angela has been working with mothers and babies for the past 29 years and has been involved in the education of health professionals about lactation for the past 13 years. Angela is the Nursing Unit Manager of a very busy
60-bed postnatal unit at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney, Australia. |

Cathy Carothers, BLA, IBCLC, RLC, is ILCA's Director of Marketing. She is co-director and co-founder of EVERY MOTHER, Inc., a nonprofit organization providing counseling and lactation training services. The former Training and Outreach Coordinator for Best Start Social Marketing, she has served as national project coordinator for several breastfeeding social marketing projects for the United States Department of Agriculture, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Maternal and Child Health Bureau. She has worked extensively with breastfeeding families in the WIC Program, and served as the State WIC Breastfeeding Coordinator for the MS State Department of Health. She travels across the U.S. providing breastfeeding promotion training and technical assistance to WIC programs and other health professionals. |

Terriann Shell, IBCLC, RLC, ICCE

Terriann Shell has over 25 years helping breastfeeding
families starting as a mother-to-mother support group
counselor leadng to becoming an IBCLC in 1988. She has a
wide variety of experiences in the field of lactation
working with the WIC program and training peer counselors,
operating a private practice business, and planning
lactation conferences. Terriann currently works at two
hospitals teaching childbirth classes and making "lactation
rounds" on the mother-baby unit. She is also active in her
state breastfeeding coalition and serves on the Board of
ICEA. |
