The Baby-Friendly Way
This year’s World Breastfeeding Week theme focuses on improving maternity care practices that support exclusive breastfeeding, with an emphasis on the evidence-based “Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding” outlined in the Baby-Friendly Initiative. The theme is ideal for breastfeeding educators and advocates who provide breastfeeding promotion and support services to both pregnant and postpartum mothers in virtually any practice setting, including hospitals, private clinics, government, and public health.
ILCA’s ever-popular World Breastfeeding Week Kit will be better than ever, with all new resources and promotional items. The kit and materials will be available for ordering soon to help you celebrate in grand style!

Breastfeeding: A Vital Emergency Response -- Are you ready?
The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action’s 2009 World Breastfeeding Week theme focuses on the importance of supporting breastfeeding before, during, and after an emergency happens.
From a house fire, to an earthquake or other natural disaster in a community, to the economic crisis of losing a job, a family can experience an emergency at any time. Breastfeeding is a safety net when a disaster strikes and is life-saving for babies in a crisis situation. Having a plan of support in place before an emergency occurs is essential.
This year’s kit and related promotional products focus on breastfeeding as part of any family and community’s emergency preparedness plan, an important message for World Breastfeeding Week and beyond—breastfed babies are ready for anything!
