ILCA provides a course directory as a service to students seeking a lactation management course. Students are encouraged to contact individual providers to learn more about their courses in order to select a course that best meets their learning needs. Course directors may download an application for a directory listing.
The International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® (IBLCE®) requires that exam candidates complete 90 hours of didactic education in lactation management. Some of the courses in the directory enable students to obtain the required 90 hours in one comprehensive course. Some courses provide varying amounts of clinical experience and some are offered entirely or partially through distance learning.
Many courses are designated as LEAARC Approved. The Lactation Education Accreditation and Approval Review Committee (LEAARC) recognizes courses with a minimum of 45 hours through a voluntary process to ensure students that a program covers essential topics and skills, has qualified faculty, and has sound business practices.
