Fellows of ILCA

In August 2007, the ILCA Board of Directors announced the creation of the Fellow of the International Lactation Consultant Association program. It has been a long standing goal of the ILCA Strategic Plan and members of our profession to establish a program that would suitably recognize significant professional achievements of the leaders and mentors in the field of lactation consultancy.

Self-nominated and self-funded designation as “fellow” is the typical manner of recognizing continuous financial membership and proven commitment to ILCA, in addition to professional excellence in the health care field. ILCA members who have achieved a high level of professionalism, demonstrated by meeting independently-set criteria, will be permitted to attain this universal form of recognition. All eligible ILCA members are encouraged to submit their application to permit their recognition as a Fellow of ILCA (FILCA).

Criteria for Eligibility

A candidate for Fellow of the International Lactation Consultant Association (FILCA) must meet the following requirements:

  1. 10-year non-consecutive financial membership with ILCA
  2. Mandatory volunteer commitment to ILCA or an ILCA affiliate/chapter, global-affiliate
  3. Recertification as IBCLC® by IBLCE® examination at ten or more years
  4. Professional and personal development of self and others
  5. Significant contribution to the field of lactation consulting
  6. The Fellow of ILCA Application Review Committee requests your 250 word biography, for publishing in the eGlobe, and use in compiling a history and commemorative record of FILCA inductees.
