Job Listings for IBCLCs |
These job descriptions, gathered from many types of
institutions, are samples of various types currently in use by
employers of IBCLC lactation consultants. ILCA is not
recommending any of these as a model job description. In fact,
you are encouraged to read them with a critical eye to determine
which elements you might use in developing your own job
description. Some of these samples fail to describe the actual
clinical work involved in caring for breastfeeding mothers and
babies. Additionally, they do not make it clear whether the
position is a stand-alone job or if it describes one of several
differently titled positions within the institution. Most
important, read them with an eye to holding up the IBCLC
credential as the gold standard. If you are creating a job
description, be careful not to appear to endorse the notion that
there are "breastfeeding specialists" or other sorts of generic
"lactation consultants."
