Equitable Access to IBCLC Certification: Where Do We Go From Here?
Substantial roadblocks to attaining IBCLC certification exist worldwide, including challenges related to language, education, and systems of oppression. This forum will provide an overview of those barriers, the history of work conducted by individuals and organizations during the last 2 years, and resources and opportunities for finding solutions. Organized by the Lactation Equity Action Committee, an independent group addressing inequity in access to IBCLC certification. Participants will receive continuing education units.
Honoring the Native Tribes on Whose Land Our Conference is Held
The 2016 ILCA Conference is being held on the land of the Native people from several Tribes, including but not limited to the Potawatomi, Sauk and Fox, and Ojibwe. ILCA wishes to acknowledge them as the Traditional Caretakers of this land. We also pay our respects to their Elders, past and present, and the Elders from other communities who may join us.
Accessibility for All Attendees
ILCA works hard to ensure that the conference is accessible to all of our attendees. For questions about accessibility or to request accommodations please contact email@example.com. Two weeks advance notice will allow us to provide seamless access. Accommodations at ILCA include but are not limited to: Wheelchair accessibility; Reserved seating for those with mobility, hearing, and/or vision differences; Accommodation of service animals; and American Sign Language interpretation (as requested).
Information for Families & Babies
We support breastfeeding families. ILCA welcomes infants-in-arms and non-separating children to our conference. We ask that you be mindful of the needs of your children while being sensitive to other conference attendees. A room will be set aside with a refrigerator and comfortable seating for families and for those who would like to express and store their milk. Please bring your own breast pump.
We need you! Volunteering is an excellent way to get involved, meet new people, and help ILCA to provide an excellent conference to its participants. Make sure to sign-up on your registration form. You'll receive an email with expectations and instructions closer to the date of the conference. If you have any questions, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Do you know about the ILCA Conference Scholarship Fund? It was developed to assist members in attending the annual ILCA Conference. If you need financial assistance to attend the conference and are an ILCA member, apply for an ILCA Conference Scholarship. The application period has ended for 2016. Please check back next year for Scholarship opportunities. If you have any questions, please email us at email@example.com.
Conference Scholarship Fund Raffle
This year, ILCA will be raffling off donated items, including an iPad. All funds collected through the raffle will go to ILCA’s Conference Scholarship fund which will be used to help those who need financial assistance to attend the ILCA Conference. You may purchase raffle tickets at the conference, and must be present to win.
